Proxies for Web Scraping and Data Collection

Updated:

For most web scraping jobs, private IPv4 datacenter proxies give the best speed for the money, and static ISP proxies are the backup for stricter sites. Spread requests across a pool of dedicated IPs, keep the request rate reasonable, and respect each site's robots.txt and terms.

Who uses proxies for data collection

Collecting public data at scale from a single IP rarely works for long. Sites limit how many requests one address may send, and a busy scraper on your office IP can get that IP blocked for everyone in the building.

A pool of proxies spreads the load, lets you see each site as visitors from a given country see it, and keeps your own network out of the picture.

  • E-commerce teams tracking competitor prices and stock
  • Researchers and analysts gathering public data sets
  • Developers testing how their own site responds from different countries
  • Travel, real-estate and job-listing aggregators

Why static dedicated IPs work for scraping

With static proxies you control the rotation yourself. Your scraper picks an IP from your list for each request or session, so you know exactly which IP did what, and you can retire one that gets rate-limited.

Because each IP is dedicated to one customer, its reputation depends on how you use it, not on what other users did before you. Bandwidth is unlimited, so large pages, images or long crawls do not run up a data bill.

  • Predictable: the same IPs for the whole rental period, easy to whitelist in your tools
  • Clean: no other customer shares your IPs
  • Unlimited bandwidth: no per-GB costs
  • Session-friendly: keep one IP for a logged-in or cart session, then switch

Which proxy type to choose for scraping

Start with datacenter IPs and only move up to ISP where a site blocks them. Choose the country whose version of the site you need to see.

Recommended scraping setup

Our proxies use HTTP/HTTPS with username and password, which every common scraping library and tool supports. Export your list from Orders in ip:port:user:pass format and load it into your scraper.

  • Size the pool to your request rate; more IPs at a slower rate per IP beats a few IPs pushed hard.
  • Rotate IPs in your own code, but keep one IP per login or cart session.
  • Send realistic headers, add delays and back off on HTTP 429 or 403 responses.
  • Test each IP with the proxy checker and drop slow or blocked ones from the rotation.
  • For desktop tools that lack proxy settings, route them through Proxifier.

Scrape responsibly and avoid common mistakes

A proxy changes where requests come from; it does not change what you are allowed to collect. Follow robots.txt, the site's terms, and the data-protection law that applies to you, and never collect personal data you have no right to process.

  • Hammering a site with many parallel requests until it slows down or blocks everyone
  • Scraping pages behind a login with accounts you do not own
  • Ignoring robots.txt and terms of service; heavy abuse also breaks our terms
  • Using ISP proxies for everything when datacenter IPs would do the job faster
  • Never checking the response, so blocked pages and captchas end up in your data

Frequently asked questions

Datacenter or ISP proxies for web scraping?

Datacenter first. Private IPv4 proxies are faster and cover more countries. Use static ISP proxies only for sites that block datacenter IP ranges. More in our proxy type comparison.

Do I need rotating proxies for scraping?

Not necessarily. With a pool of static IPs you rotate in your own code and keep full control over which IP is used for which request.

Is there a bandwidth limit?

No. Bandwidth is unlimited on our proxies, so you pay per IP per month rather than per gigabyte.

Do the proxies support SOCKS5?

Our proxies are HTTP/HTTPS with username and password authentication. Most scraping libraries such as requests, Scrapy, Puppeteer and Playwright support this directly. See HTTP vs SOCKS5.

Is web scraping legal?

It depends on what you collect, where you are and the site's terms. Collecting public, non-personal data while respecting robots.txt is common practice; check the rules that apply to your project.

Build your scraping pool

Order as many private IPv4 proxies as you need; the price per IP drops as you buy more, and bandwidth is unlimited.
