How to set up a proxy on Android and iPhone

Updated:

To set up a proxy on a phone, you edit the Wi-Fi network you are connected to: on Android, set the proxy to Manual in that network's advanced options; on iPhone, open the network's details and choose Configure Proxy, then Manual. Either way the proxy applies to that one Wi-Fi network only, not to mobile data.

What a phone proxy covers, and what it doesn't

Phones treat a proxy as a property of a Wi-Fi network. That has three practical consequences people often miss:

  • Switch to another Wi-Fi network and the proxy is gone until you set it again there.
  • Mobile data (4G/5G) has no built-in proxy setting on either system, so traffic on cellular goes direct.
  • Browsers follow the proxy, but some apps use their own connections and may skip it.
  • An active VPN app takes priority, so switch it off while using the proxy.

Android proxy setup on a Wi-Fi network

Open Settings, go to the Wi-Fi list and open the details of the network you are on (tap the gear, or long-press the name). Look for Advanced options or an edit button, then set Proxy to Manual. Samsung, Xiaomi and stock Android place this slightly differently, so the path may not match word for word.

Enter 203.0.113.10 as the proxy hostname and 8080 as the port, then save. Android has no username or password fields here. Chrome on Android asks for user123 and pass456 when you open the first page; apps that cannot show such a prompt will simply fail to connect through the proxy.

iPhone proxy setup with username and password

On iPhone or iPad, open Settings, tap Wi-Fi, then tap the info icon next to your network. At the bottom, tap Configure Proxy and choose Manual. Fill in Server with 203.0.113.10 and Port with 8080, switch on Authentication, and enter the username and password. Tap Save.

Unlike Android, the iPhone stores the login with the proxy, so Safari and most apps connect without asking. If iCloud Private Relay is on, Safari traffic may go through Apple's relay instead, so turn it off while you test.

Apps that bypass the phone proxy

The Wi-Fi proxy is a suggestion that apps choose to follow. Browsers and most social apps do, but some games, video calls and apps with their own network code connect directly. On Android, apps that need a proxy login and cannot ask for it often show a generic connection error.

If an app must always use a specific IP, test it by checking the IP it reports or the account's login history. For many accounts, a desktop antidetect browser such as GoLogin is usually more reliable than a phone.

Phone proxy troubleshooting

  • No internet as soon as the proxy is saved: host or port typo, or the order has expired. Re-enter the values from Orders.
  • Android browser keeps asking for a login: the username or password typed in the pop-up is wrong; phone keyboards like to add a capital letter or a space.
  • IP check still shows your carrier IP: you are on mobile data, not the Wi-Fi network with the proxy. Turn mobile data off and test again on My IP.
  • Country does not match your order: test the line on a computer with the proxy checker, then open a ticket if it is still wrong.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Copy the proxy details

In the Vinaproxy.com dashboard, open Orders and note the four parts of a line like 203.0.113.10:8080:user123:pass456.

  2. 2

    Connect to the Wi-Fi network

Join the Wi-Fi network you want to use the proxy on, and turn off mobile data and any VPN.

  3. 3

    Android: edit the network

In Wi-Fi settings, open the network's details, go to advanced options and set Proxy to Manual.

  4. 4

    Android: enter host and port

Type the hostname and port, save, then open Chrome and sign in to the proxy when asked.

  5. 5

    iPhone: open Configure Proxy

In Settings and Wi-Fi, tap the info icon for your network, then Configure Proxy and Manual.

  6. 6

iPhone: fill in server and login

Enter server and port, switch on Authentication, add username and password, and tap Save.

  7. 7

    Verify the IP

Open My IP in the phone's browser and check that the proxy address and country appear.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a proxy on mobile data instead of Wi-Fi?

Not with the built-in settings. Both Android and iPhone only offer a proxy option per Wi-Fi network.

Why doesn't Android ask for my proxy username and password?

Android's Wi-Fi proxy setting has no login fields. The browser asks when it opens a page, but many apps cannot, so they fail or bypass the proxy.

Do all iPhone apps use the Wi-Fi proxy?

Safari and most apps do. Some apps with their own network handling ignore it, so test the specific app if the IP matters.

Which proxy type works on phones?

The HTTP proxy from Vinaproxy.com is what the Wi-Fi setting expects. There is no SOCKS option there, and Vinaproxy.com does not offer SOCKS5.

Will the proxy stay on after I restart the phone?

Yes, it stays saved on that Wi-Fi network until you remove it, change networks, or the order expires.

A static IP for your phone

HTTP proxies with username and password login and a fixed IP for the whole rental.
