How to set up a proxy in Proxifier for apps without proxy settings

Updated:

To set up a proxy in Proxifier, add your Vinaproxy.com server under Proxy Servers with the HTTPS protocol and your username and password, then create a Proxification Rule that sends the apps you choose through it. Two more settings make or break the result: rule order and DNS resolution.

When Proxifier is the right tool

Browsers and antidetect browsers have their own proxy fields, but plenty of Windows and macOS software does not: desktop tools, game launchers, bots and automation programs that only know how to use your normal connection. Proxifier sits between those programs and the network and pushes their traffic through a proxy without the program knowing.

This also means you can be selective. One app can leave through a Japan proxy while everything else on the computer uses your normal connection, which keeps updates, calls and streaming off the proxy.

Proxifier proxy setup: the Proxy Servers window

Open Profile then Proxy Servers and click Add. Proxifier calls a standard HTTP proxy that tunnels connections HTTPS in its protocol list; that is the correct choice for an HTTP proxy from Vinaproxy.com, not a different product. Menu names can shift a little between Proxifier versions and between Windows and macOS. For the line 203.0.113.10:8080:user123:pass456 enter:

Proxifier settingValue
Address203.0.113.10
Port8080
ProtocolHTTPS (HTTP proxy with tunnelling), not SOCKS
AuthenticationEnabled, username user123, password pass456

Rules decide which apps use the proxy

Adding a server does nothing on its own. Under Profile and Proxification Rules, create a rule that lists the program file (for example tool.exe), leave target hosts as any, and set the action to your new proxy. Proxifier checks rules from top to bottom and uses the first one that matches, so a specific app rule must sit above the Default rule.

Keep the Localhost rule set to Direct and leave Default as Direct unless you really want the whole machine on the proxy. Routing everything through one IP is rarely what people intend, and it can create loops with other VPN or proxy software that is running.

Send DNS through the proxy as well

By default the computer may still look up website names through your own internet provider, which reveals where you are even when the connection itself goes through the proxy. In Profile and Name Resolution, choose the option to resolve hostnames through the proxy. After that, both the lookup and the connection come from the proxy IP.

Proxifier troubleshooting

  • The Proxifier log shows 407: the credentials were refused. Re-enter the username and password in the server entry and confirm authentication is switched on.
  • Connection attempts fail or time out: wrong address or port, a SOCKS protocol selected, or an expired order. Use the built-in check in the Proxy Servers window to test the server alone.
  • The app still uses your real IP: its rule is below Default, the program name is misspelled, or the program starts a helper process that also needs to be listed.
  • Pages load but the location looks wrong: turn on remote name resolution, then test with the proxy checker. Persistent problems go to a ticket in the dashboard.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Copy the proxy line

In the Vinaproxy.com dashboard, open Orders and copy the proxy you want to use.

  2. 2

    Open Proxy Servers

In Proxifier, go to Profile, then Proxy Servers, and click Add.

  3. 3

    Enter address and port

Type the host and port from the line, here 203.0.113.10 and 8080.

  4. 4

    Pick HTTPS and enable login

Choose the HTTPS protocol, turn on authentication, and enter username and password.

  5. 5

    Run the check

Use the check option to confirm Proxifier can reach the proxy, then save the server.

  6. 6

    Create an app rule

Under Proxification Rules, add a rule with the program file and the action set to this proxy. Move it above Default.

  7. 7

    Resolve DNS through the proxy

In Name Resolution, enable resolving hostnames through the proxy.

  8. 8

    Start the app and verify

Launch the program and watch the Proxifier connection log; it should show traffic going to the proxy you added.

Frequently asked questions

Why does Proxifier say HTTPS when my proxy is HTTP?

In Proxifier, the HTTPS protocol option means an HTTP proxy that tunnels connections. That is how Vinaproxy.com proxies work, so HTTPS is the right pick. Do not choose SOCKS.

Can I send different apps through different proxies in Proxifier?

Yes. Add each proxy under Proxy Servers, then write one rule per app pointing to its proxy, all above the Default rule.

Is Proxifier free?

Proxifier is paid software with a trial period. Check the developer's site for the current licence terms before you rely on it.

Does Proxifier work with games?

It works for games and launchers that use TCP connections. Game traffic over UDP is not carried by an HTTP proxy, so voice or match traffic may still go direct. See gaming for more.

Why is my whole computer slow after setting up Proxifier?

Usually the Default rule points to the proxy, so every program uses it. Set Default back to Direct and proxy only the apps you need.
